Statement of Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Racism
At Aurora, it is our intention that all clients feel understood and respected by their therapist. We are devoted to creating an inclusive practice, welcoming of all people regardless of ethnicity, race, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or any other aspect of their identity. We acknowledge the unique challenges and historical traumas faced by individuals of different backgrounds, and strive to create an environment where all clients can be their authentic selves free from fear of bigotry or discrimination. This includes educating ourselves on anti-discrimination and anti-racism, and providing a culturally, socially and racially informed clinical practice.
Nonetheless we may misunderstand or dishonor some aspects of our clients’ lived experiences. Through our own unexamined or unconscious bias we may not fully appreciate the impact of racism, sexism, anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment, religious discrimination, audism, ableism, etc. on our clients' experiences. Should this happen, we ask that you share your experience with your therapist so they may offer an apology and attempt to repair the therapeutic relationship if you are interested in doing so.
If you prefer not to speak with your therapist directly, or did so and did not receive a satisfactory response, please contact Aurora's Director, BethAnn Schacht, LMHC at bethann@auroracounselingassociates.com or 774-292-9007. We would be honored to receive this feedback and address the issue with the goal of creating a safe and inclusive practice for all.
